Mood Board Project Analysis

Dissecting typography, images, unity, and colors while constructing a mood board!
"Reflective project analyzing the millennial 'American Woman'!"
Mood Board

“American Woman” contextualizes the stereotypical millennial female; while concurrently depicting the thought-provoking, experimental and impetuous mindset in today's youth.
The contrast and divergence in color lure the reader; an exuberant scarlet red, embellished by the canary yellow, eclipsing the retro black, accentuates on the symbolization of time. A strategic choice of color juxtaposing the more classical era and twenty-first century’s perpetual exploratory psychology. The disunity of dynamic colors on the right, correlated to a more feeble palette on the left reinstates the evident partition between time. A rouge pink on a raven black gives insight to the dark rock'n'roll age, and rhythmic manifestation at the time.

The utilization of a more condensed, bold, vibrant sans-serif font family as the title, “American Woman”, symbolizes a contemporary youth; while, a distant, distinctive letter case usage and chaotic typeface arrangement in the title, “Rock and Roll’ exemplifies a preceding adolescence. Furthermore, the use of black slab-serif with an exclamation point in the headline, “KIM!”, along with the bold sans serif distributed typeface in “NAKED” distinguishes today’s provoking and progressive mentality.

The portrayal of the experimental and provocative youth is illustrated through images of prominent celebrities, magazines, fashion and female nature. Controversial celebrities such as “Kim Kardashian” and seductive magazines such as “Esquire” encapsulate present-day stereotypical millennial “American Woman”. On the other hand, retro fashion foreshadows the ‘Rock ages’, and high heeled, extravagant female legs emphasize the experimental and provocative theme juxtaposed throughout time.

Coordination of images, fonts, and colors build on an intoxicated youth while bridging throughout decades. Division horizontally of colored and achromatic pictures and fonts create segregation between the preceding and today's youth; while a vertical divide illustrates old belief and the stereotypical American woman in comparison to a modernized American woman.
