Magazine Cover Process (Continued)

Image
After a masthead, a magazine must attract the reader. I decided to incorporate words that describe my magazines content at the hope of intriguing people.   Words such as "entrepreneur", "fortune", and "success" all help symbolize what "Flip Dinero" is about. To further attract attention, I placed a quote from the successful model, a feature used by Forbes almost always, which shows advice and insight at the young man's story. To further mirror Forbes as an example, I placed a barcode on the bottom left corner and applied a shadow background. Both features specific and stable in all Forbes issues, a great component to a successful magazine.

Table of Contents

Image
x The Table of contents was mirrored from one of the highest praised magazine's in the world, Money Magazine. Money Magazine has an issue where they used a border around the main background color, I resembled this while adding a gold background and a texture to the background. This was not only for it to fit the magazine's genre but also for a unique trait to the magazine. Furthermore, Money Magazine also uses a large image to represent "Money", in this case, a clip art. In order to further exemplify a unique trait of Flip Dinero, I made these symbols cars. This is because it shows high value and a design like no other. Moreover, The large numbers attract the reader's attention as they standout by the white. I decided to make the title of the page reflect for another unique trait of having a complete spread table of contents. This illustrates a larger and more complex magazine when it comes to business and money.

Cover Photo Shoot and Reflection

Image
The cover photo shoot took place in the school thanks to the model Ernesto Pedroso. We built a mise-en-scene around the "success" mindset. This meant showing extravagance and wealth within one picture. Thus, we used gold chains, dollar bills, and high-end brand clothes and fashion style to fit the scene. Not only so, but we must also decide between a euphoric wealth or a serious businessman look. Ultimately the businessman looks better to fit the image and thus we applied it. The shoot took around an hour taking in mind we had to find multiple gold chains and real dollar bills.  We used a white background for easier editing capability and to integrate a shadow behind the model replicated in the Forbes magazine. It was essential to have a one-man-show for the cover for maximum similarity to the Forbes Magazine. Because of my lack of skills and limit of InDesign ability ideas which i took from Money Magazine I could not do. For example, Money Magazine used a vari

"Dade-School's Hacker" spread

Image
Today's Society is driven by technology and the internet. Those who control or understand technology can become the most powerful and at times the richest individuals in the world. I interviewed a young man whose talent has allowed for the unveiling of the Miami-Dade Schools system. He is a 17 year old hacker from Miami Senior High. I designed a photo shoot that resulted in these pictures: I then took these photos to Photoshop were In darkened them and created a gray scale filter. This gave it the ominous and "Hacker look". Furthermore, I added the final edited picture to the spread. Working on the color scheme i decided to continue the ominous look with the black toned background and white letters. The article discussed the hackers accomplishments and the corruption at the school level. Not only so, I included the individual's quote and used the ongoing "gold" color scheme. I used a drop cap to emphasize the word "Hacker", this attra

Photo shoot Planning

Image
While planning for the photo shoot i decided to draw the cover out. I planned the subject to be over the masthead, thus, showing the importance of the business figure. In order for the masthead to not be unnoticed I decided to style it with the Photoshop design, "stroke". I plan to use Ernesto Pedroso for the photo shoot, and he will be modeling as a powerful, rich businessman. Not only so, in order to show this he will use be wearing 3 gold chains and a polo sweatshirt as expensive clothes. He will also show his money power by holding dollar bills in his hand. A serious face will illustrate his powerful and respectful image, and emphasize his role in the magazine. Lastly, i will place the bar code on the left of the cover and the header in the bottom right corner over the figure to pop-out as the most important article.

First Spread Feature Photo Shoot

Image
During the spread feature, I decided to give the story of a young tech leader in our school, Carlos Gomez. Due to his background and is known for hacking, I developed a mise-en-scene around the term. I used multiple devices, a monitor or desktop to how ad advanced hacking while also using a laptop to show possible router or camera "snooping". Not only so, but the model also had to have a serious, ominous look in order to represent the public view of a hacker. Lastly, I kept most of the background in mind to add and experiment with dark, ominous filters and animosity n photoshop.

First Spread Feature Process

Image
During the editing of the first spread image, I had to keep in mind 3 terms: animosity, ominous and technology.  I developed the term "animosity" by using a long rectangle covering the model's eyes, as face recognition is done through the eyes. Furthermore, the ominous mood was developed by the use of the filter, "Conte Crayon", which applies a black and white gradient with a scratched surface; giving the image a scary and dangerous look. Lastly, technology was developed through the use of a Dell Desktop monitor, usually the go-to for hackers, and a fast 360x HP as hacking tools for Carlos Gomez's success.

Typography

I will be using Franklin Gothic Demi as the masthead but will implement a "stroke" style to the in order to make it stand out as the dominant typography at 300px. Also I will use GIGI for the background synonyms of money behind the model. This font allows for a futuristic and business rich atmosphere to the figure. Not only so, they will appear as from his back, thus, appearing as his. Furthermore, The Gothic title will show "MILLIONAIRE & SEVENTEEN" shows the main title and article of the magazine and attract the readers. Lastly, I used the color "Gold" to highlight the words with the most power in order to emphasize their relation to the articles and allow for small hints into the magazine for the leaders. Not only will these words attract the readers interest.

Magazine Cover Process

Image
The process of creating the magazine cover took various steps: First I did a photo shoot while selecting the model and mise-en-scene I had to keep in mind my magazine's genre: "success". As a result, I chose Ernesto Pedroso as my model and exhibited a photoshoot of money and success. We used gold chains and high-end brand clothes to further show the success standard.  After placing it in photoshop it was time to edit and highlight the term "success". I gave the picture a black and white gradient in order to create the gold and money color contrast. Not only so used vibrant gold colors to illustrate the main articles headline in the front.  After that, it was time to name the magazine. After much thought, I came up with the name "Flip Dinero", which stands for bilingual money flipping term to illustrate the abundance of success. This was the masthead. One which I applied a stroke style and placed behind the model to meet a similar style to
